Buffalo Horn Parts

Water Buffalo horn has long been used by Japanese craftsman for making functional and beautiful Kurikata, Koiguchi and Kojiri and many other parts for Japanese swords.
Each of our parts are entirely hand made by skilled craftsmen and are exact copies of old well made Japanese designed parts. If you have the skill, time and ambition to grind and make your own parts, block shaped cubes ( #'s 1 & 2) of solid black horn are available.
Because high quality sword restoration requires years of experience, a higher than average level of skill and training, your sword would be best served if only qualified personal are permitted to make any attempt at restoration. There is no real savings if unqualified workers are only capable of producing mediocre results.
Koiguchi and Kojiri (# 28 & # 29) are produced slightly 'oversize' to allow custom fitting to the dimensions of your Saya. The Koiguchi (# 28) are made oversized and the center hole left smaller to allow for a custom fit. With few exceptions, all other parts are ready for installation.
Illustrated below are a number of different styles and sizes that have been most commonly used and available at 'factory direct pricing'. Because WE are the manufacturers of HORN parts we offer the most reasonable prices.
The 'hook' part # 3 (aka: Tsunakuchi, Kaishizuno, Soritsuna and others) is available in three sizes and was originally used to catch the bottom edge of the wearers Obi in an effort to secure the Saya and prevent it from being pulled out with the blade during an emergency.
Measurements given of the below parts are those of the 'foot print' of the part.
Both horn (Kurikata) part #'s 24 (sized for Tanto) and # 32 (large and small sizes are available) were produced with a larger and nicely polished hole so as to allow easy passage of today's larger Sageo and it eliminates the need of using SHITODOMÉ which is the primary cause of Sageo fraying & snagging.
Horn Kurikata part # 16 was not available at the time this photo was produced but will be added shortly.
